I spent most of this week at a conference, which is why you didn’t see an article. The change of venue was good, but has me playing catch-up. You’ll probably notice that some of this week’s items such as unruly cell phones, bright lights and poor battery performance were issues I witnessed.

If you’re a fan of mobile devices then jkOnTheRun is probably on your reading list. They offer a tip on making your cell phone vibrate first and then ring. The tip is geared to iPhone users, but should work with other cell phones. Too bad some of the attendees at my last conference didn’t use this tip. It was annoying to hear a speaker interrupted by cell phones.

As we get older, one of the important areas to protect is our eyes. The Reader’s Digest compiled a list of 24 tips to improve your eyesight. Many tips dealt with foods, but some apply to computer users like changing your focus every 30 minutes. Now if I could just convince conference organizers to stop using rotating spot lights.

RSS is one of my favorite tools since you can easily scan content. Sometimes you want to refine your reading list to capture specific authors. Digital Inspiration comes to the rescue with a way to filter RSS feeds by author using Yahoo! pipes.

One area that I haven’t focused on lately is cell phones. Fortunately, Web Worker Daily does. Samuel Dean has a short article on some of the cell phone apps that can save you money and time.

The funny thing about going to tech conferences is you can see where technology fails. Notebook battery life is still a big issue. Plenty of participants were scrambling to find the few seats that were near power outlets. I was hoping to try the new Livescribe pen, but it looks like that test will have to wait. It should ship this month. With luck, it will be before my next conference on the 25th.
