Contrary to popular opinion, I did read more than the NCAA basketball results this week. In fact, my reading popped up some new finds for people who are short on time, but love news. And for good measure, there are also tips for YouTube, Firefox, Vista and recyclers.
Are you interested in a site that provides 100 word tagged summaries on articles or videos from popular magazines and news shows? Bob Walsh of Web Worker Daily wrote a short piece about a site called Brijit. The site covers AARP to the Washington Post. I’ve been using it for the past several days and am impressed. The abstracts give me enough of an idea whether I want to click through to the original source. You can also subscribe to various feeds. As mentioned earlier, Microsoft released its first service pack (SP1) for Windows Vista. And it should come as no surprise that I would point you to Ed Bott’s column on what to expect. Based on my email, I know many of you are YouTube fans. If you prefer to see the higher resolution version of videos, Tech-Recipes has a nice tutorial. The trick is adding a parameter to the end of the URL string. They also provide a bookmarklet that makes the process easier. Lifehacker referenced our article on IE search prefixes. In their lead in, they also mentioned a resource file they built for Firefox on their favorites search bookmarks. Don’t let the Mac screen prints fool you as the file with work with Windows. Did you know the post office has postage-paid envelopes to recycle small electronics and ink cartridges? I didn’t either until I read a post in Quick Online Tips. According to the USPS press release, 1500 post offices in 10 cities are piloting this program. The cities mentioned include Wash D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles and San Diego. The press release goes on to say the program could become a national program if successful. I have an inquiry in about the other cities. That's all for this week.
