If you use Outlook Express and BCC (blind carbon copy), you may want to check your account
configuration. OE has a bug that can reveal to the other recipients who is in the BCC field. This
impacts people who've configured OE to send multi-part messages.
If you use Outlook Express 6.0 and configured it to break apart messages, you might be exposing BCC (blind carbon copy) addresses. Most people don't use this option and it is turned off by default. Other people have ISPs (Internet service providers) that don't allow outbound messages greater than a certain size. These people need Outlook Express to break their email messages into parts. The recipient's email program then recombines the parts. A problem may occur if you send a multi-part message and include a BCC (blind carbon copy). Because of the bug, the recipients in the To: and Cc: lines may be able to see who is in the Bcc field. This defeats using a BCC address and may be embarrassing. To see if you have Outlook Express 6.0 configured for multipart messages,1. Open Outlook Express 2. From the Tools menu, select Accounts 3. Click the Mail tab 4. Click on the email account you wish to check 5. Click the Properties button 6. Click the Advanced tab 7. Halfway down, there should be a check box item called Break apart messages larger than. Microsoft has a hotfix for this problem. You can find more details from the following article. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;843555 |
