Laptops are great, but they don't work in all locations. Either it's too difficult to balance them on your lap or you've contorted your body into an awkward position. We found a great portable desk that is both ergonomic and economical.

Even though laptops are mobile, it doesn't mean you can easily work with them in all settings. One reason is laptops tend to generate considerable heat on the bottom of the unit. The heat isn't always evenly distributed and certain sections can get uncomfortably hot. The second reason is it may be difficult to find the correct ergonomic position. A classic example is working on a train with no table.

One solution to these problems is the Laptop Desk. The desk is a sturdy, but light piece of tempered plastic with ventilation channels. The desk can be used in one of two manners. You can either fold the desk out lengthwise or fold the ends toward each to create an angled typing desk. The desk offers five ergonomic typing angles. The desk is extremely light and folds in half for easy packing.

I've been using one of these desks (ver 1.0) for over a year and appreciate its design. I've noticed that my Sony laptop runs cooler with the Laptop Desk because of the ventilation channels. One unexpected benefit is I found the desk useful with my external folding keyboard for my PDA. Before the Laptop Desk, I wouldn't use my PDA keyboard on a train, as there wasn't enough support. Since the desk is so light, it's become a regular item in my computer bag.

Since I started using the desk, the company has introduced ver 2.0. It is the same size but weighs a little bit more. The main difference is that ver 2.0 includes a support arm that allows it to be used as a desk stand.
