Reading the Tiny Type
Several years ago, we wouldn't hesitate clicking the Agree button on a privacy policy or software End User License Agreement (EULA). Today, we all need to be aware of what these agreements contain. Too many companies are taking liberties with your data and limiting your rights. Some of these conditions may make you think twice about using the software or service such as granting companies the right to use your computer.
Sadly, many agreements display in a separate and often smaller window that limits viewing during installation. This design forces you to scroll countless pages of small text. Consequently, many users simply agree to the terms, as it's easier.
Fortunately, there are easier ways to read agreements using Copy and Paste methods. The advantage to pasting the contents to a word processor is you can reformat the agreement for easier review. In addition, you can print a copy for your files.
We've found these two methods work best for grabbing the agreements.
EULA Capture Method A
1. Click in the text window that displays the EULA or privacy policy.
2. Right click with your mouse and choose Select All from the pop-up menu. If no pop-up menu is available, you can try the CTRL-A key combination. Otherwise, try Method B.
3. Right click and choose Copy from the pop-up menu.
4. Open your text editor.
5. Press CTRL+V to paste the whole document
EULA Capture Method B
1. Left-click at the top of the text window that displays the EULA or privacy policy.
2. While pressing the left mouse button down, scroll to the bottom of the window. This should highlight the whole agreement.
3. Press CTRL+C to copy the text to your clipboard.
4. Open your text editor.
5. Press CTRL+V to paste the whole document
